Epispadias is a rare defect which is present in the male at birth. In this condition, the urethra does not develop fully making the urine exit the body from the wrong place. The urethra is the tube that carries out the urine from the bladder. This disease usually occurs because of the non- development of the pubic bone. Also, a birth defect called bladder exstrophy is a cause of Epispadias. In this birth defect, the bladder is in an inside- out position because of which it sticks through the walls of the abdomen. Males suffering from Epispadias have a wide penis with an abnormal curve. Epispadias is treated in the same way as Hypospadias and involves correction of the curvature, reconstruction of the missing portion of the urethra and the reconstruction of the anterior wall of the bladder through surgery.
