Also known as Partial knee Replacement surgery is a surgical process to treat arthritis that has affected only the single part of the knee. Partial knee replacement is an invasive surgery that eliminates only the damaged areas of the joint. During the knee replacement surgery, the damaged bones and cartilage is resurfaced with metal and plastic components. In the case of unicompartmental knee replacement, only a portion of the joint is treated.

Since the process involves treating only a small portion of the knee, it promises quicker recovery, less pain after the surgery and even less blood loss. During the surgery, the healthy bone, cartilage and the ligaments are not removed which helps the patients knee feels more natural after the unicompartmental knee replacement as compared to the complete knee replacement.
